MTV Japan Jam - driven by BDL

A picture says a thousand words so please forgive the lack of commentary! Hilton Niseko Village and MTV Japan hosted a snowboarding competition just above the lodge today. Clayton designed the jump and fought for it's two top features, the sled tow-in and the gap. Health and Safety may have been at work somewhere as the gap ended up looking a bit smaller than the 14m on the designs but it was still big enough for a double back flip, which won the competition. The sleds were driven by BDL's very own Clayton and J-Roc.

Is that really the date??
Phew, it's been a busy few weeks here at BDL! TGR, Level 1 and Ride have been hanging out at the lodge and taking advantage of the BDL crew's extensive knowledge of all things snow in Hokkaido. Currently the Giro team are checking out Niseko's hidden spots and Field Productions are arriving in a few days. To add to the excitement BDL has been involved in designing the MTV Japan Jam jump. While not getting complete artistic freedom the sled tow-in and gap should make for an exciting event.
The weather has been hotting up and the snow seems to be taking a winter vacation but there are still stashes to be found and people are coming back to the lodge with happy faces, often with skins/snowshoes in hand. As always you can check out our Facebook page for the latest on what is happening in and around the lodge as well as some great shots/movies from people getting the BDL experience, pro or otherwise.

PowPowPow!
It's been a busy couple a weeks since our last post as Niseko is ramping up for peak season. Guests have been renting vans and chasing the best snow to Kiroro and Kokusai as well as exploring the backcountry with Black Diamond Tours. JS from BD Tours also ran a two day certified avalanche course (AST-1) which was very popular, this course will be running throughout the winter. There was a lunar eclipse, which some of didn't fully appreciate at the time as we put it down to a cloud and concentrated on the snow! The Lodge had a traditional Christmas dinner on the 24th and 25th, the restaurant was full to bursting on both nights with guests and locals. The barbeque cooked beer turkey was a welcome taste of home which was complemented by barbeque orange chicken. Santa dropped off a late present on the evening of the 25th in the form of the biggest dump of the season so far. Some people were even saying that the snow was too dee, we will hopefully be posting some videos of the powdery goodness soon!
